Home composting.

Composting at home if you have the space is invaluable. Not only is it incredibly satisfying to turn your would-be waste into your very own homemade compost to use in your garden but it also gives you control over what goes into your compost, saves money by reducing how much compost you might need to buy in and saves fuel as there is far less transport involved (aside from a short walk in the garden).

Having a compost bin in your garden can also save time when tending to your garden. With less trips, often through the house, to the green waste bin, a well designed composting system can leave more room during a gardening session for the work that you really want done.

Aside from the practicalities, healthy compost heaps or bins can also be a great habitat for numerous insects, amphibians, reptiles and small mammals, providing food and a warm place to sleep or nest.

If you’d like advice setting up a home composting system to turn your garden and kitchen waste into precious food for your plants, I can offer a consultation to help you understand the principles behind composting, the maintenance involved and help you to work towards a system that works best for you and your space.
